Red Cloud 03:36
The sky was a warning Herald in help that should have come The clouds feel like falling Fire consuming the ground behind us Drive faster, friend Drive faster I don't want him to catch us God sends the lightning Striking that church-man down Won't feel like escaping Door's still open Door's wide open Play tag and he'll catch us January's red and blue this year, baby Back and forth behind the rear-view lens Gas is running low And the storm's still coming Fix it, baby Fix me, baby I love you Why am I trying? Nothing's true if nothing's real Safe in this lying If you can't stop me, no one will Hold faster, friend Hold faster And dare him to catch us

Cold blows the wind to my true love And heavy pours the rain I only had but one sweetheart And in greenwood she lies slain In greenwood she lies slain I'd do as much for my true love As any young girl may I'll sit and mourn upon her grave For a twelvemonth and a day A twelvemonth and a day When the twelvemonth and one day were gone The ghost began to speak "Why sittest thou upon my grave And will not let me sleep? You will not let me sleep." There's one thing that I want, my love There's one thing that I crave I wish for a kiss from your lily-white lips Then I'll go from this place I'll go from this place "My bones, they are as cold as stone My skin smells earthly strong And if you kiss my cold, clay lips Your days, they won't be long Your days, they won't be long." My time be short, my time be long Tomorrow or today May Christ in Heaven take all my soul I'll kiss your lips of clay O Down in yonder green, my love Where you and I would walk The first spring flower that e'er I saw Is withered to a stalk "The stalk is withered and dry, dear love So will our hearts decay So make yourself content, my love, 'Til God calls you away." When shall we meet again, my love? "O Nevermore we may So make yourself content, my love 'Til God calls you away." Cold blows the wind to my true love And heavy pours the rain I only had but one sweetheart And in cold stone she lies slain In cold stone she lies slain

O My noble son, come take up thy sword And to battle gladly go When your hour is come and your war is won Fear nothing but a death too slow Weep no more, son of mine For God gives thee what is thine Do not fill your heart with woe When your hour is come and your war is won Fear nothing but a death too slow

Flares 01:58
I know I can't protect you when voices rise And I know that you'll say something dumb when I try to apologise for just sitting there And holding your head And for knowing that you're always fine And it's dumb to be scared Because you'll laugh eventually when you light up those flares And I guess I'll just sit here And hold your head

Burnout 04:05
Friend of the fire Reduced to ashes, scattered Sticking to the bottom of your boots Ready to be stepped on
And dragged through the carpets Friend of the fire Reduced to dust that you keep breathing in and choking on When will she go away? I’m so tired And you can write yourself into oblivion Pretend you’re the underdog Fuck what the rest of them said You don’t need friends You don’t need anyone No choice but burnout Strike a match and set the flame Stop whining, man up Put your armour on When will you go away? I’m tired, I’m tired And you can write yourself into oblivion Pretend you’re the underdog Fuck what the rest of them said You don’t need friends You don’t need anyone Pull yourself down And you can write yourself into oblivion Pretend you’re the underdog Fuck what the rest of them said You don’t need friends You don’t need anyone

Rhyme Song 02:58
Angel mine, you circle still And dip into the sun You shoot into the waves below A bullet from a gun The stars don't care if we pursue They care not if we cry But angel mine, you still look back You'll mourn us if we die O Phoenix of the arctic, rise, And herald in the day I can see the skyline close Home can't be far away O Crossbows raised for sport tonight We fire to the stars Not so long until we're through The ocean's icy scars Fourty days and fourty nights The sky is burning read For the first time in a long time I've got songs stuck in my head Soon we'll all be safe at home And lying in our beds Just one more day 'til we're no longer Wishing we were dead

about

This was originally the soundtrack and underscoring for a production of King Henry IV Part 1, but we got axed and were left with a pretty cool album.
While all of these songs are tangentially related to King Henry, this is an album chiefly about what happens when you burn yourself out; what happens when you can't rest, but you can't push yourself any further; what happens when you're too worried about disappointing your therapist to tell her the truth.
"Thieves" is a notebook page, scribbled on, rubbed out, and eventually moved on from.
Last fall was rough. Really rough. But I got some great songs out of it.

Andrew Breazna, incredible producer and human being that he is, spent four sessions and about 48 hours with me, putting this together, and without him, it really wouldn't have been this good.
